XGS-PON is a standard that supports symmetrical data transmission at 10 Gbit/s for Passive Optical Networks (PON). XGS-PON is an abbreviation and stands for 10 Gigabit Symmetric PON (“X” in XGS stands for the number “10” and the letter “S” for “symmetric”). The earlier version XG-PON was a non-symmetrical transmission and limited to 2.5 Gbit/s upstream.

10 Gigabit-capable FTTH access network
The ability to deploy a 10 Gigabit-capable FTTH access network enables broadband service providers (BSPs) to leapfrog their competition by bringing advanced broadband offerings to market that enable them to rapidly deploy next-generation XGS-based services, develop new incremental revenue streams and acquire subscribers in an accelerated manner.
By investing in the Calix Intelligent Access EDGE solution, which is based on the software-defined Network Innovation Platform, BSPs can reap a number of benefits, including a reduction in total cost of ownership of up to 40 per cent and a dramatic reduction in the time it takes to deploy new services from weeks to days.
AXOS intelligent access edge systems enable you to deliver services to your subscribers from the data centre to the most remote locations on your network with consistent operational procedures and rapid BSS/OSS integration, regardless of the system, location on the network or technology used.

DZS supplies the missing link.
Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) installations have generated great excitement among broadband users as they promise amazing, consistent high-speed services with low latency. However, many FTTH installations cannot reach or connect all customers in a given area. There are various reasons for this, such as expensive last-hop installation costs, building access difficulties, historical/architectural constraints or complex multi-dwelling unit (MDU) arrangements.
In response to these challenges, operators worldwide are adopting a fibre expansion strategy to deliver ultra-fast broadband. This uses Gfast technology to bring fibre-like speeds to homes over existing last-hop copper infrastructure – a cost-effective alternative to a full fibre roll-out.
This efficient and effective fibre expansion strategy consists of a remotely powered Distribution Point Unit (DPU) connected to the existing copper line and powered by an in-house Network Termination Device (NTD).

The ONT Series 79xxx is also referred to as the “2-box solution” in the industry, where there is a clear distinction between FTU/ONT and router/home gateway.
This solution ensures simple operation of the XGS-PON network and offers a high level of investment security for years to come thanks to the future-proof XGS-PON standard.

The most flexible FTUs in the industry
The standard Ethernet interfaces with 10 / 5 / 2.5G and Gigabit LAN offer with the 2-box solution a flexible and standardised way to easily adapt the router/home gateway to the much faster technology changes (in the field of WLAN and IoT), as well as to the needs of the end customers.
The FTU layout is based on a standard Euro socket form factor so that the customer perceives this unit as a socket and not as “another device in my house”. The active part can be clicked directly onto the FTU.
Active XGS-PON ONT
The active XGS-PON ONT unit features 1 x SC/APC connector for XGS-PON (WDM integrated) and the optional RF overlay. The XGS-PON ONT solution is based on an open OMCI to ensure interoperability with a wide range of OLTs. The optional RF overlay port is switchable via the OMCI (depending on the OLT). The CALIX AXOS based OLTs support this feature.
The XGS-PON ONT family has low power consumption and supports the recommendation of the “Code of Conduct on Energy Consumption of Broadband Equipment”.
ONMSi optical network testing and monitoring system for core, metro, access and FTTH networks.
The ONMSi optical network monitoring system increases labour productivity and simplifies fibre network management with fewer technicians through remote testing and accurate documentation of installed fibre cables. The system accurately detects and locates fibre quality degradation and informs the network operator and manager based on detailed fault location information. Measurement plans allow network operators to evaluate the long-term performance of the fibre and implement efficient asset management on this basis.
